Vehicles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for tips.

An important official said the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
