A man who laced sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She said the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
